Introducing EcoBold.com

EcoBold.com does video reviews and interviews of all kinds of green and eco-friendly household products and manufacturers. From reusable calendars to organic body lotions to recycled candy wrap purses.

Ecobold.com CEO, Steffany Boldrini, was born and raised in a small ranch in Brazil, her mom raised her and her 2 sisters under true “green” standards. As kids they were always eating fresh fruits, recycling, composting, playing in the mud and picking up trash around the forest that was left behind by others. But not everything was always green in her mind, one of the things she always wanted was to live in the city and have a doorbell and a house number just like all her school friends!

Today she understands that her childhood has prepared her to help in bringing global awareness towards taking care of our environment. She is a huge advocate for creating new manufacturing standards for products that should never harm our planet or our health.

Over 50,000 Boiler scrappage scheme vouchers snapped up

The Government’s boiler scrappage scheme is proving a hit with households, with 54,758 vouchers snapped up so far.

The newly introduced boiler scrappage scheme, which aims to replace the less-efficient G-rated boilers with more eco-friendly boilers, has been greeted with overwhelming interest and support from householders, energy companies and boiler manufacturers alike. Since the scheme’s launch in early January almost 400,000 interested Britons called the Energy Saving Trust with enquiries.

Renewable Energy Incentive Announced

The Government has finally revealed their long-awaited plans to reward businesses, households and communities for generating renewable electricity.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has unveiled plans for Clean Energy Cashback – a feed-in tariff aimed at incentivising low carbon technologies such as solar panels and wind turbines.

From April households and communities will be able to claim cash for all the energy they generate from green technologies – up to 5 WM – even if they use it themselves. They can also get increased payment for any surplus electricity they feed into the National Grid.

Ministers claim a typical 2.5 KW solar panel could offer a “reward” of up to £900 and help cut energy bills by £140 a year.

Announcing the move, Mr Miliband said:

“The guarantee of getting an income on top of saving on energy bills will be an incentive to householders and communities wanting to make the move to low carbon living.

“It will also change the outlook for a range of industries, in particular those in the business of producing and installing small scale low carbon technology.”

He also revealed plans to introduce a similar scheme from next April which will offer cash incentives to install renewable heat generation technologies, such as ground source heat pumps and biomass boilers.

The tariffs have been given the thumbs up by renewable energy groups, although some environmental campaigners warned they were not radical enough.

Maria McCaffery, chief executive of the British Wind Energy Association, said that similar incentives had been successful across Europe, while Jeremy Leggett, executive chairman of Solarcentury claimed:

“For the UK to reach its carbon reduction targets, people have to be given the opportunity to generate their electricity in a rewarding and accessible way, this makes it possible.”

However, David Timms, of Friends of the Earth, warned that the Government had been “too timid”.

He argued:

“There is huge public support for small-scale green energy schemes. The Government must do much more to tap into this enthusiasm and ensure that everyone plays their part in developing a safer, cleaner future.”

Jet fuel plans give boost to green energy

Plans by British Airways to build an eco-friendly jet fuel plant by 2014 have been welcomed as a huge step forward by Tees Valley green chiefs.

According to reports, the East London plant will make enough jet fuel from food and industrial bio-waste to power all of the carrier’s flights from London City airport more than twice over.

John Barton, projects director with Renew on Teesside, said it could help pave the way for energy-from-waste projects closer to home.

“This project will prove to the investor community this technology is a good bet,” he said.

“There are energy from waste projects in the pipeline for Teesside.”

Too busy, Too Small to Care About Green IT?

Rumor has it that small and mid-sized companies don’t care about energy or the environment – that your sole focus is on profits. Oh please, say it isn’t so.

It’s kinda like saying “I’m too busy and too small to put my money in the bank – I’ll just stick it here in my pocket and take it out when I need it.”

Aligning with Green
Green and sustainable business isn’t an enterprise initiative. If you have brand that matters to you, if you want to stay relevant in today’s markets, if you actually care about efficiencies in your business, you’re paying attention to green and figuring out how you can align your organization.

Green energy will not meet world demand, warns BP boss

Policymakers are fooling themselves if they believe greener sources of energy alone can adequately meet Britain’s needs for the next decade, the chief executive of BP warned.

Demand will not be met by the “very ambitious” nuclear programme and planned increases renewable energy capacity, Tony Hayward said.

“With these uncertainties in mind, it would be foolish to underplay the role that natural gas and energy conservation can play in reducing carbon emissions,” he added in a speech at the London Business School.

Green Touch Initiative aim to reduce energy consumption in worldwide ICT networks by a factor of 1000.

Bell Labs, the research arm of network infrastructure firm Alcatel Lucent, has announced a new initiative aimed at reducing the carbon emissions of the world’s communications infrastructure, including the internet, by 1,000-fold.

The project, entitled Green Touch, aims to bring together research bodies, government departments, and other network providers to help reduce the carbon emission levels of the IT industry from its current level of 300 million tonnes per year, said the firm.

Global warming makes trees grow at fastest rate for 200 years

Forests in the northern hemisphere could be growing faster now than they were 200 years ago as a result of climate change, according to a study of trees in eastern America.

The trees appear to have accelerated growth rates due to longer growing seasons and higher concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Scientists have documented the changes to the growth of 55 plots of mixed hardwood forest over a period of 22 years, and have concluded that they are probably growing faster now than they have done at any time in the past 225 years – the age of the oldest trees in the study.
