Renew your cover and help save the planet
Making a claim on your home insurance could help reduce your carbon footprint if you are covered by M&S Money. The insurer will no longer automatically replace fridges, washing machines and other white goods on a like-for-like basis. Instead it will pay for a model that is rated at least an ‘A’ for energy efficiency, even if that costs more than the original.
Electrical items are rated on a scale of A to G, but now A+ and triple-A products are available and M&S will replace these with similar models.
And where significant rebuilding is needed, for example after a fire, the insurance will pay for the work to be done in line with the best environmental standards – the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4. This can reduce the amount of CO2 produced in building and running a home by about half, though it may cost M&S more than a conventional repair.
