China sets ambitious target on emissions

Beijing announces it will cut rate of carbon output growth by 40 per cent

By Clifford Coonan in Beijing

China has galvanised the run-up to the climate change talks in Copenhagen by announcing an ambitious target to reduce its carbon footprint. It is the first time the world’s biggest producer of greenhouse gases has committed itself to a reduction, and comes one day after the US announced its own target.

Taken together, these signals of intent by the world’s two biggest producers give a powerful boost to the prospects for the talks. China said it will cut emissions of carbon relative to economic growth by 40 to 45 per cent by 2020 compared with 2005 levels.

Because its economy is still growing fast, this means that in absolute terms China’s emissions will continue to rise fast for at least a decade. But for the first time China has agreed to slow the pace of growth of emissions.

Earth Friendly Home Products

Goods and services with no negative impact on the environment are known as earth friendly products. Such items are easy to recognize by the eco-labels, nevertheless, not everybody will get the same exposure to earth friendly products. Unfortunately, many people lack green education and they have no familiarity with the concept of earth friendly products. Plus, the present international standards do not allow for a standardization and the implementation of an all green regulation. The regulators are meant to provide guidance because the single specification of environmentally friendly on a product label is not enough.

Earth friendly products do receive a better exposure on the market. Winning over market segments takes time, patience and commitment, and we won’t witness earth friendly products dominance in the too near future. Momentarily, organic food has become subject to intense advertising campaigns. This seems to be the right alternative to the conventional food saturated with chemicals, pesticides and additives. The average consumer does not even know how many options there are available in terms of earth friendly products from the bio-degradable bags to sustainable building materials.

Green living, clothing, green building, pet care, toys, gifts, furniture, body and bath products and lots of others make the main categories of earth friendly products that you can shop for. Some items are now widely available on the shelves of the supermarkets, but others can only be purchased online. Just search for them, and you won’t feel disappointed. You can first find some information on the Internet, and then check the local supply store to see whether they have the items available.

To sum it up: there is no toxicity for body or environment in earth friendly products. Raw materials, no toxic dies or toxic chemicals: this is what defines such items best. Although we can only speak of diversity but not of predominance on the market, earth friendly home products do have a promising future. The higher the demand, the more generous the offer. Plus, eco-friendly products have the support of international organizations such as Greenpeace that contribute to the conservation, regeneration and protection of the planet’s environment.
